If the mountain and fjord views aren’t a big enough reason to visit the small village of Oye, the Hotel Union Oye is absolutely worth it. In the heart of the Norangsdalen Valley, this historic and one of a kind hotel in Norway is truly one of Norway’s hidden gems. We spent a few days at this incredible hotel as part of our Norway itinerary and you can find our honest review of the hotel as well as a number of photos and things to know to help you plan you visit.

While the Hotel Union Oye is not a budget stay, if you are looking to splurge for an authentic Norwegian experience – this is the place to do it. I don’t usually do hotel reviews, but we really enjoyed this hotel, so I’m shairing sharing a short description of the hotel and some photos.

The View from the Hotel Union Oye
The first reason to stay here are the views. Look up the Norangsdalen Valley for towering mountains and waterfalls, and look down towards the Norangsfjord, a branch of Hjørundfjord where the mountains dive straight into the fjord. Make sure to enjoy the view and get out for a stroll along the roads in both direction.

The Food and Decor at the Hotel Union Oye
The next reason to stay here is the thoughtful decor and the amazing food. There are several dining options and a gorgeous bar in the greenhouse room with a friendly bar tender. Breakfast is served in the conservatory and is both made on demand and a buffet.
Each room has it’s own style and even the outdoor spaces are thoughtfully put together with blankets for enjoying a cool evening. The bedrooms in the main hotel are full of character and each maintains a unique charm.

Goats at the Hotel
The week before we visited – they got goats to clear some brush at the hotel. This was a highlight (even though we have goats at our own house). Freja loved getting in and spending some time with the goats – who were doing a fantastic job clearning the brush.

Make sure to venture into the basement which has a sitting area, pool table, and library. You’ll feel like you stepped back in time.
