5 Ideas to Get Off the Beaten Path in Aruba
Visit Arikok National Park
Arikok National Park spans approximately 20% of Aruba, showcasing a diverse landscape of rugged terrains, unique flora and fauna, and significant historical sites. Exploring this park provides insights into Aruba’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Visiting the park is one of the best ways to see the more wild, eastern side of the island. You can visit as part of a tour or if you rented a car, drive to the National Park. The highlights of the park include caves, beaches (not for swimming) sand dunes, and crashing waves.

Go Hiking
The island boasts several hiking trails suitable for various fitness levels. Notable trails include the Conchi Natural Pool Trail, leading to a secluded natural pool, and the Jamanota South Trail, which ascends to Aruba’s highest point, offering panoramic views. There is also hiking in the north of the island.
In general the hiking trails are easy to walk with little elevation. It’s advisable to start early due to the heat and to carry ample water as the temperature in Aruba is very hot with no shade.

Swim in the Cave Pool
Within Arikok National Park lies the ‘Conchi’ Natural Pool, a tranquil swimming spot formed by surrounding rocks. This spot is very popular, and accessing this pool requires a hike or an off-road vehicle.
Located just a bit to the north, the Cave Pool is easier to access and offers a different experience. The pool has also become popular so we recommend getting there early or late (we were there around 8 am and had the pool to ourselves.
To get to the pool, stay to the right of Bushiribana Ruins. There is a ladder leading down onto some fallen rock that leads to the cave.

Take an Adventure Tour
For those seeking guided experiences, companies like De Palm Tours offer off-road adventures, including UTV and ATV tours through the island’s diverse landscapes. These tours often encompass visits to natural attractions and provide insights into Aruba’s ecology and history.
These tours offer some of the best off the beach path destinations on the islands and are perfect if you aren’t planning to rent a car.
Take a Day Trip our to Flamingo Beach
Flamingo Beach, located on Renaissance Island, is renowned for its resident flamingos. Although not exactly off the beaten path, this island can be difficult to visit if you aren’t staying at the Renaissance Hotel. There are day passes available, but if this is on your list, the easiest way to ensure you can get to the island is to stay at the resort for a night.
Accessible via a short boat ride from Oranjestad, visitors can purchase day passes, which include amenities and a food and beverage credit. It’s a unique experience to relax on pristine beaches alongside these elegant birds.
