If you are visiting this part of Norway, the Waterfall Walk in Geiranger (Vannvegen) is a must. This short walk followed the main river in Gieranger as it flows out into the fjord. The short walk follows paths and stairs right along several impressive waterfalls. We did this walk right before heading to dinner and were incredibly impressed with power and size of the waterfalls.

You can do this hike from either direction, but most people do it as an out and back. It’s also possible to do just a section of the path. My top advice is to wear something to protect you from the spray (raincoat or rainpants).

The trail is easily accessible from the village center, making it ideal for families, cruise passengers, or anyone looking for a scenic stroll.
By Foot: If you’re staying in Geiranger village, the walk to the start is just a 5–10 minute stroll from the harbor or main street. Look for signs pointing to “Vannvegen” or “Waterfall Walk” near the Geirangerfjord Visitor Center.

Details of the Waterfall Walk in Geiranger
We started the Waterfall Walk in Geiranger before heading into town for a meal. The trail is easy to reach from the town. It basically goes up one side of the river, so you can always walk to the river.
The path itself is very open and well maintained with several sets of stairs and raised pathways and viewing platforms. The waterfalls seems to grow in size and intensity the further up you go with the biggest waterfall near the end.
