The quick answer is NO. Zion is a beautiful park with several epic hikes and even more good hikes and scenic overlooks and there is no way you can see it all in one day. If you have flexibility, you should plan at least 3 days in Zion.

If you only have one day in Zion, it is definitely worth the stop and you can still get a sense of this amazing place. How to Get to Zion National Park

The best way to explore Zion National Park (especially if you’re exploring Zion in a day) is to drive your car and use the park’s shuttle system. When the shuttle is running, you can not drive up Zion Canyon and will need to park at the visitor center and hop on the shuttle. We found the shuttle system easy to use (find more about the Zion shuttle here) but it does get crowded at certain parts of the day.

Zion is generally easy to drive to and the roads are well maintained. If you are driving from the east you will come in through the tunnel, this is a beautiful road but expect to take a bit longer between slow driving and traffic.

The closest airport to Zion is the George Regional Airport (it is about a 1-hour drive but has limited flights). You might also want to fly into one of the other big cities near zion national park such as Las Vegas or Salt Lake City.

  • Las Vegas to Zion National Park is 160 miles (2-3 hours)
  • Salt Lake City to Zion National Park is 300 miles (4.5 hours)

Best Time of Year to Visit Zion National Park

Zion National Park has year-round appeal, but the best time to visit Zion is in the spring and fall when temperatures are good, but there aren’t quite as many people. Summer in Zion can be hot and there are often thunderstorms in the afternoons so if you are planning a Zion National Park 1 day itinerary and it happens to rain that afternoon, it’s best to have a back-up plan.

Winter in Zion can also be wonderful and it is beautiful to see the rocks against the snow. Just be prepared for cold temperatures, ice, and snow.

How to Make the Most of Zion in One Day

If you only have 1 day in Zion, you will want to make the most of every minute. While you can’t see everything in Zion in one day, there are a few ways to make the most of your time.

Get an early start! If you can get one of the first shuttle buses in the morning. This means you will beat the crowds on the shuttle and the trails and get out hiking for the best part of the day! Depending on the time of year, the shuttle either starts running at 6 am or 7 am and by 8 there will likely be a line to get on.

This is even more important if you are hiking one of the more popular hikes (like Angel’s Landing or the Zion Narrows). Spend the morning doing the longest hike you will do that day – then you can take a break for lunch and explore more or even head back to your hotel to take a break in the afternoon when things get even more crowded.

Use the afternoon to take a scenic drive or tackle a shorter hike and then head back to Springdale for dinner.
