Quick Look: How to Hike Mount Aksla

Distance: 1.3 miles
Elevation: 479
Difficulty: moderate

It’s almost not correct to call this a hike – it is really climbing a series of stairs and paths up the hillside to the summit. The climb isn’t long but it is steep for the short distance making it a moderate climb that’s not great if you don’t have spry knees. The whole hike is 418 steps starting in Byparken town park and take 1- 1.5 hours

The most important thing to know is that this is a very popular hike, especially if there is a cruise ship in town. If you are visiting on a cruise, try to head straight to the hike before others and if you are staying in Alesund, it’s best to hike this in the morning before the cruise ships let off the people.

You can see the cruise ship schedule: Cruise calls – Ålesund harbour.
