We finally had the chance to explore Guatemala this past year. Just Dave and I visited and made a point to get out and see the adventurous side of the country โ from the cobblestone streets of Antigua to the rugged slopes of Acatenango volcano and the tranquil, jade-green waters of Lake Atitlรกn.

Weather Guatemala’s climate varies by altitude โ the highlands average a pleasant 20ยฐC (68ยฐF) year-round, while lowland jungle regions are hotter and more humid. Expect a dry season and a rainy season, the latter bringing lush green landscapes.
Best Time to Visit November to April (dry season) is ideal for hiking and sightseeing. May through October brings afternoon rains but fewer crowds and greener scenery.
Currency and Tipping Guatemala uses the Guatemalan Quetzal (GTQ), though USD is accepted in tourist areas. Tip around 10% at restaurants and a little extra for tour guides.
Must Eat Don’t leave without trying pepiรกn, jocon, and fresh banana-leaf tamales. Wash it down with Guatemala’s world-class highland coffee or a shot of Quetzalteca.
